Amritsar Train Tragedy: Family of 13-year-old victim holds protest

Amritsar Police and volunteers carry a victim from the site of a train accident in Amritsar Friday Oct 19 2018. Officials said at least 60 bodies have been found and many more injured have been admitted to a government hospital

Minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha, who visited the accident site near Joda Phatak, said, "The incident was not railways' fault".

Holding Kaur and organisers of the Dusshera function responsible "for abetting the Amritsar tragedy", the core committee, which met in Chandigarh under the chairmanship of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, rejected the magisterial inquiry ordered by the Congress government.

"This is the photograph of my father. Last night, when accusations were being leveled against her, she was with patients". The crowd had spilled onto the tracks and the sound of firecrackers drowned out the horn of the approaching train. I am running around everywhere.

"I have looked everywhere, including hospitals and the railway track, but there is no trace of my son. More importantly, right now we need rehabilitation and a healing touch", Mr. Singhvi said.

Families of sole breadwinners like Suresh Kumar or Parminder Pal Singh are unable to think how life will move on without them.

"The sight was ghastly after the train passed: lifeless bodies and limbs lay strewn around".

Later, she left immediately without helping the people.

Anju, whose brothers Vikas and Ninderpal were killed in the incident, accused leaders of indulging in politics over this incident.

Following the accident, people rushed to the site and shouted at railway officials for not taking precautions.

When the din of the fire crackers of the burning Ravan died down, wails and cries filled the air.

Saudi king orders probe in Khashoggi case, Turkey to search consulate
Saudi Arabia on Sunday thanked Washington for not rushing to conclusions as the probe continues into the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

There are fears that the death toll is likely to go up further, officials said.

The victims were standing on the railway tracks watching celebrations for Dusshera, a Hindu festival marking the triumph of good over evil.

Boisterous people on the railway tracks enjoying the deafening fireworks could not hear the siren of the oncoming train.

He alleged that Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur was exclusively answerable for the accident as she was the chief guest at the Dussehra function and responsible for holding such a big event sans security and safety measures.

"There are 5,000 people on railway tracks".

"Lot of students were gathered here and we can see so many unknown bodies lying around and there is not even enough light here even now", one person on the scene told a local channel.

Spectators were watching the effigy burn, and a fireworks display, when many started moving towards the railway tracks a short distance away.

Relatives of the victims have turned on the railways for allowing the train to go through when there were scores of people near the tracks. Police sources said that the organisers had gone underground.

Just two minutes before the DMU train crushed the people, leaving 59 dead and almost 60 injured, Howrah Mail had crossed the same spot without a problem with the same number of people standing there. And what was the speed of train?
