Putin issues chilling warning on rising nuclear war threat

Putin: Nothing to stop new states joining nuclear pact with US and Russia

Putin has previously said that Russian Federation would be forced to train its own missiles on any European countries that host USA rockets.

"For mankind this is very bad, because it will take us to a risky point", Putin said, expressing concern about moves to lower the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons, including the USA decision to produce lower-yield missiles.

The Russian leader said it remained to be seen if the USA keeps its word, noting Washington's 17-year presence in Afghanistan despite sending occasional signals of pulling out there.

President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said the West was trying to hold back an increasingly powerful Russian Federation, during an end-of-year press conference that took aim at sanctions and "made-up" spy scandals.

Ryabkov accused Washington of "extremely intrusive" attempts to shine a light on Russian rocket manufacturing and said that Washington had in the past rebuffed Russian requests to look inside United States submarines under another arms control treaty.

"You aren't interested, you don't need it?"

The Russian leader added that even though a nuclear conflict now seems impossible to most, the danger is close and real.

"There is a trend of lowering the threshold" of using nuclear weapons, Putin said.

"We know how to ensure our safety", Putin said, "we can do that".

The Latest Developments Involving Manafort And Flynn In Mueller's Investigation
McCabe asked Flynn if he could send in a few agents to speak with him about "his communications with Russian representatives". According to that document, Strzok said Flynn made small talk about hotels and "the president's knack for interior design".

Butina pleaded guilty last Thursday in front of a United States federal judge to one count of conspiracy to act as a foreign agent. He said that if the USA puts intermediate-range missiles in Europe, Russia will be forced to take countermeasures.

Her case is a vivid "part of a larger mosaic of Russian influence operations" laid out in part by special counsel Robert Mueller's probe of Russian interference, former Justice Department officials David Laufman told The Washington Post last week.

On Wednesday, Mr Trump announced that he would withdraw USA troops from Syria, saying Islamic State forces had been defeated there. There is only one aim: "to hold back Russia's development", he said, later lamenting that ties with Britain were at a "dead end".

"I don't understand what she could confess to since she was not carrying out any government assignments... whatever she said was under threat of 10 to 15 years in jail", Putin said.

He showed no sign of backing down from Russia's stance on Ukraine, accusing his Ukrainian counterpart of provoking a naval standoff with Russian Federation to boost his electoral prospects.

On the Russian economy, Putin hailed another year of growth after a previous period of stagnation.

Russian military experts asked their USA counterparts several days ago to hold consultations on the missile dispute, but had not yet received any response, Ryabkov said.

The Russian president noted Thursday that the nation's hard currency reserves have increased from $432 billion at the start of the year to $464 billion now. Full-year growth is estimated at 1.8 percent.

Putin pledged that the government will create incentives to speed up growth.
