Lawyer: Britain Plans to Strip IS Teen of UK Citizenship

The UK Home Office has reportedly revoked the British citizenship of Shamima Begum, the teenager who ran away from her London home in 2015 to join Islamic State in Syria.

And the British Nationality Act says the Secretary of State can not deprive a person of their citizenship "if he is satisfied that the order would make a person stateless".

Attorney Tasnime Akunjee said in a tweet that Begum's family is disappointed at the Home Office's move "to have an order made depriving Shamima of her citizenship".

Jarrah - who is named in hour of a barbaric jihadi warlord at the request of her terrorist husband - could however return to the UK.

Their lawyer Aamar Anwar told the Sunday Mirror: "If it was your daughter would you not want her back?"

The lawyer insisted that the baby was "no threat" and that legally Ms Begum was allowed to return as a British citizen.

Worldwide law forbids nations from making people stateless by revoking their only citizenship, while government guidance from 2017 states that the Home Secretary has the power to order the deprivation if it would be "conducive to the public good", and as long as they are not left without any citizenship.

"If her citizenship is taken away she is potentially stateless". She has said she wants to return to Britain and raise her child quietly, but many of her statements also suggest she still holds extremist views.

The Times leads with the reports of Ms Begum being "stripped" of her British citizenship, while also covering the resignation of Joan Ryan who said Jeremy Corbyn "presided over a culture of anti-Semitism".

Newborn with umbilical cord still attached found in middle of California roadway
Paramedics took the infant to Valley Children's Hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery, said officials. Authorities rescued a newborn girl early on Monday after she was found lying on the road in California's Madera County.

The fate of Shamima Begum, who was found in a detention camp in Syria last week, has illustrated the ethical, legal and security conundrum that governments face when dealing with the families of militants who swore to destroy the West.

News said Begum's mother had received a letter from the Home Office on Tuesday (local time) which said the Home Secretary had ordered the move.

"Where it is deemed a threat, we are able to deprive people of their nationalities", Javid told parliament, before announcing a seemingly contradictory slither of hope for nationals overseas in Syria.

From there, she has made it known she wants to return to the United Kingdom with her newborn baby.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid had previously told the Times he "will not hesitate" to prevent the return of Britons who "supported terrorist organisations overseas".

Britain stripped a teenager who travelled to join Daesh of her citizenship on security grounds, triggering a row over the ramifications of leaving a 19-year-old mother with a jihadist fighter's child to fend for herself in a war zone.

If Shamima Begum decides to appeal the decision to impose deprivation of citizenship order she has 28 days to appeal to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission.

Asked during the Sky interview if she felt she made a mistake going to Syria, Begum said: "In a way, yes".

Last week, she declared that she wanted to come home with her son.
