Wikileaks founder Julian Assange arrested in London

Julian Assange has been spied on even while taking refuge at the Ecuadorian embassy

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's almost seven-year stay at Ecuador's embassy in London came to an abrupt end on Thursday when police entered the building and arrested him after Ecuador withdrew his asylum.

At the moment, Assange is being held at a central London police station and will appear before the Westminster Magistrates' Court later today.

WikiLeaks accused Ecuador of "illegally" withdrawing asylum for Assange and said Ecuador's ambassador to London had invited British police into the building to arrest him.

Assange had refused to leave Ecuador's Embassy, claiming if he did he would be extradited to the United States, where he could face trial over the leaking of some 500,000 secret US military files on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The announcement followed years of mounting tension between Assange and his Ecuadorian hosts and his citizenship has reportedly been suspended.

"During the conspiracy, Manning and Assange engaged in real-time discussions regarding Manning's transmission of classified records to Assange", the DOJ said in a statement.

"On the other hand, Mr Assange violated, repeatedly, clear cut provisions of the conventions on diplomatic asylum of Havana and Caracas; despite the fact that he was requested on several occasions to respect and abide by these rules".

Assange has been under U.S. Justice Department scrutiny for years for Wikileaks' role in publishing thousands of government secrets and was an important figure in the special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe as investigators examined how WikiLeaks obtained emails stolen from Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and Democratic groups.

Tottenham set world-record annual profit of £113m
Chairman Daniel Levy remained the highest paid executive in the Premier League despite halving his salary from £6m to £3m. Since the financial year in question two transfer windows have passed without Spurs making a single new acquisition.

His Australian legal adviser Greg Barns fear he could face 45 years in jail in the United States for publishing classified military documents.

For the past decade, Assange has claimed numerous times that the Sweden case was a sham to get him extradited to Sweden, and then to the US.

Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno said on Thursday that Ecuador had made a decision to withdraw diplomatic asylum from Assange.

Assange had claimed asylum inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012, as he faced questioning related to alleged assaults in Sweden.

Assange waved to a packed public gallery as he walked into court wearing a black suit and polo shirt, with grey hair tied into a pony tail and long beard.

Moreno has said, however, that he asked that Assange not be extradited to a country with the death penalty. "No one is above the law", United Kingdom Home Secretary Sajid Javid tweeted. "He has hidden from the truth for years", Hunt tweeted.
