SAN FRANCISCO (Politically Illustrated) – U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is speaking "more and more," according to a spokesperson for Mrs. Giffords, saying, "she's working very hard and it's paying off."

“She’s not going to let this thing win,” C.J. Karamargin told reporters. “It’s huge and it’s great. It’s very big news and we are all very excited.”

Mr. Karamargin does not know her very first words, but said she asked for toast for breakfast one morning.

The announcement comes as Mrs. Giffords husband, Mark Kelly, wrote on Facebook she is eating three meals a day and will “soon stand.”

“The doctors say she is recovering at lightening speed considering her injury but they aren’t kidding when they say this is a marathon process,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Gabby’s appetite is back and – even though it’s hospital food – she’s enjoying three meals a day.

Mrs. Giffords’ remarkable recovery comes after being shot in the head during an assassination plat last month by alleged gunman Jared Lee Loughner, wounding 13 and killing six.

Mr. Loughner pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Mr. Kelly will soon command the space shuttle Endeavour, bringing important supplies to the International Space Station.

“She’s going to run for president, or for Sen. John McCain’s seat,” commented Ron Parker, a medical doctor in San Francisco. “Even if she has to wheel her way up steep slopes.”

“No, she’s a walker. She’s going to walk her way to the Oval Office, or waltz. She’s going to waltz her way into the Oval Office.”
