“For four decades this tyrant has held power,” she said. “Gaddafi was Osama before Osama hit the scene. He is a brutal killer and Libya – not mention the world – would be better off if he were out of power.”
She urged Mr. Obama to speak out, saying, “now is the time.”
Mr. Obama is scheduled to address the nation tonight on the events in Libya.
The president will “strongly condemn” the bloodshed in Libya, according to a statement released by the White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.
Mrs. Palin’s remarks come after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton condemned the bloodbath in Libya on Monday and Tuesday.
“Everything will be on the table,” said Mrs. Clinton. “We will look at all the possible options to put an end to the violence, to try to influence the government.”
Mr. Carney said that “a lot of options are under review,” including sanctions.
Will sanctions work on Libya?
“I doubt sanctions will work on Libya,” Ronald Billpont, a professor at University of San Francisco, told Politically Illustrated. “Is the U.S., and the international community, going to stop purchasing oil? No.”
“Are there other things the United States can do? Sure. The C.I.A. is already working on flushing Mr. Gaddafi from his tent.”
