“I’m looking forward to having a grandchild,” Pal Sarkozy, 83, the father of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, told a French tabloid.
“Though Nicolas and his wife do not wish to know their future child’s gender,” he continued, “I am sure that it will be a girl and that she’ll be as beautiful as Carla.”
A spokesperson for Mr. Sarkozy declined to confirm the rumors.
Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy is a former model and singer who married Mr. Sarkozy in 2008. The marriage occurred months after Mr. Sarkozy ended a public marriage with Cecilia Attias, who re-married in 2008.
On Monday, Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy appeared on a public television channel to promote her foundation, taking questions from an interviewer.
“I know you hate talking about your private life, but I want to simply congratulate you,” asked the interviewer.
She replied, blushing: “I congratulate you too.”
