“It’s an unfortunate event,” Abasi Habibath, of Cairo, told Politically Illustrated. “The media, including Twitter and other social networks, have been used as tools to topple the government in Tunisia – and now Egypt.”
“Who will be next? Will Jordan, who announced a new government yesterday, or Yemen fall to Western democracy? Every generation has their revolution, but we’re at the point where we’re having revolutions from our revolutions to serve the interests of the United States.”
Mr. Habibath’s comments come as U.S. President Barack Obama addressed the nation late Tuesday, saying he supports democracy in the Middle East.
“Over the past few days, Americans have watched the demonstrations in Egypt with concern,” said Mr. Obama.
“I have stood for a set of principles with Mr. Mubarak…. And I urge the military to help the transition of change be peaceful.”
“Going forward, the United States will continue to stand for Democracy in Egypt and around the world…Mr. Mubarak recognizes the status quo is not sustainable.”
“A transition must be peaceful and it must start now.”
