SAN FRANCISCO (Politically Illustrated) – Google celebrated Harry Houdini's 137th birthday on Thursday with a new doodle on their homepage.

Mr. Houdini is most notable for his sensational escape acts and magic tricks. He was also a stunt performer, actor and film producer.

The Harry Houdini Google doodle captures Harry Houdini in handcuffs standing in front of the infamous “Google” logo.

“It’s interesting to see the different sketches and illustrations Google puts together,” Bill Richardson, a resident of San Francisco, told Politically Illustrated. “It’s their way of competing with Bing’s daily eye candy.”

Mr. Houdini’s most notable escapes included a challenge by London’s Daily Mirror to escape from a special handcuff that it claimed had taken Nathaniel Hart, a locksmith from Birmingham, seven years to make. Mr. Houdini accepted the challenge and broke from after his wife slipped him the key to the cuffs through a special kiss.

“I wonder how each new Google doodle improves traffic,” said Mr. Richardson. “I love viewing new Google doodles!”
