“After leaving the Governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago,” Mr. Schwarzenegger said in a statement. “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”
The employee worked for Mr. Schwarzenegger for nearly 20 years and left on good terms, collecting a severance. Mr. Schwarzenegger is paying full child support.
The announcement comes after Mr. Schwarzenegger and Ms. Shriver announced that they were separating after 25 years of marriage.
Mrs. Shriver is most notable for being a popular journalist and part of the extended Kennedy family.
Mr. Schwarzenegger made a name for himself as a top star in the 90s with hit movies like James Cameron’s “The Terminator,” and “Conan the Destroyer.”
The couple have four children.
