“The anti-dumping investigations and the findings made by the E.U. violated various obligations under the W.T.O. and consequently caused damage to the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese exporters,” said a statement by the Chinese, published in China Daily.
The E.U. imposed anti-dumping duties of up to 16.5 percent against Chinese leather shoes in October 2006.
The E.U. has 60 days to offer a better solution. If an agreement is not reached, a panel of judges will rule on the complaint.
“Antidumping duties are not about protectionism,” said spokesperson John Clancy reported by the Wall Street Journal. “They are about fighting unfair trade. [There is] evidence that dumping of Chinese products has taken place and that this is harming the otherwise competitive E.U. industry.”
