WASHINGTON (Politically Illustrated) – U.S. President Barack Obama announced a special commission to reduce the federal debt on Thursday with bipartisan members consisting of Democrats and Republicans.

“Americans know our problem is not that we tax too little, but that Washington spends too much - that should be the focus of this commission,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), in a statement.

The commission was established as the economic recession required “immediate emergency investments that added to our accumulated debt,” said Mr. Obama. It is unclear whether the Obama administration will raise taxes on the middle-class as he left the issue on the table for negotiations.

“The politics of dealing with chronic deficits is fraught with hard choices,” said Mr. Obama, reported by USA Today. “As a consequence, nobody’s been too eager to deal with it.”
