What’s With State Stimulus Sitting Unspent?

WASHINGTON (Politically Illustrated) – What is with state stimulus sitting unspent? Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help the economy eclipse a depression. It has been a year since the legislation was passed and executed, but the economy still spells D-O-O-M for many Americans.

“There is no doubt that Nevada has benefited from the Recovery Act,” said Senate Majority Leader Henry Reid in a press release. “The Recovery Act has created or saved more than 20,000 jobs in Nevada since President Obama signed it into law. It also continues to lay a foundation for Nevada’s growing clean energy industry, protecting our state from future economic downturns. While this important legislation helped prevent a bad situation from becoming worse, we still have more work to do, which is why I look forward to working with my colleagues on passing a jobs bill that cuts taxes for small business and invests in job-creating transportation projects.”

Mr. Reid’s statement comes as much of America debates the effectiveness of the stimulus bill and whether spending a large amount of money was effective.

Under the bill, nearly $120 billion has been spent on tax relief, with 55,000 projects being funded, 8,500 being transportation projects, and with 12,500 projects planned to come at a later date.

The White House claims the bill provided jobless benefits for 18 million Americans, loans to small businesses, funds for Medicaid, and assistance to senior citizens and veterans in need of help.
