The Justice Department wants access to cell-phone location information without a court order or showing probable cause.
“At any moment, when a cell phone is turned on, the service provider can access the location of the cell phone. If the U.S. government wins on appeal, they will require cell phone companies to store the information for a long period of time,” said John Tenebaum, an analyst of the case.
