WASHINGTON (Politically Illustrated) – Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Qin Gang urged the United States to respect its interests on Tuesday as two senior U.S. diplomats arrived in China to improve relations.

“We urge the U.S. to earnestly observe the principles laid down in the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and their joint statement, respect China’s core interests and properly handle sensitive issues, so as to push the relations back to the normal track,” said Mr. Gang at a press conference.

Tension comes as China ignores key interests held by the United States including adjusting the Chinese yuan.

“The Chinese yuan has depreciated in real effective terms in tandem with the U.S. dollar and is assessed to be substantially undervalued from a medium-term perspective,” said the IMF, reported by Reuters.

“The task of promoting balance in our international payments is getting even tougher, said Mr. Gang.
