“I extend my sincerest apology for this profile,” said Mr. McChrystal. “It was a mistake reflecting poor judgement and should never have happened. Throughout my career, I have lived by the principles of personal honor and professional integrity. What is reflected in this article falls far short of that standard.”
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Mr. McChrystal said he was “pretty disappointed” during an Oval Office meeting and found Mr. Obama “uncomfortable and intimidated” amongst other military generals.
“He’s one that covers his flanks for the history books,” said Mr. McChrystal, during the interview, regarding Mr. Obama’s decision to send more troops to Afghanistan. “Now, if we fail, they can say, ‘I told you so.’”
Senior administration officials said Mr. Obama was furious about the suggestion he was uninterested and unprepared to discuss the war in Afghanistan.
