WASHINGTON (Politically Illustrated) – The United States dominated the Winter Olympics in Vancouver with 36 medals during the last two weeks matching Germany's 2002 record in Salt Lake City.

“We stand up as warriors,” said Apolo Anton Ohno, reported by the AFP. “To know it’s the biggest medal haul ever is amazing. It speaks volumes about the support we have, athletes’ determination and that anything is possible.”

The record number of medals comes as the US Olympic Committee (USOC) built programs 12 years ago to develop talent in weak spots from $55 million in corporate sponsorship.

“Programs we put in place after Nagano are paying off today,” said US Olympic Committee chief executive Scott Blackmun.

“Any time you have a target on your back it’s tough to get anything done,” said Mr. Ohno. “But we’re up for the challenge.”

America’s loss in the Ryder compliments their losses in the Davis Cup, the World Cup, the World Basketball Championships, the Olympics, and the dollar. The last time the Americans won an international competition was the Persian Gulf.

Reportedly, Dick Cheney experienced chest pains watching the heart-stopping action of Olympic curling.

If you want to see bare-knuckled bruising that results in national glory watch the Winter Olympics. If you want to see bare-knuckled bruising that results in nothing - except national embarrassment - tune in to watch President Obama’s health care summit on C-SPAN.
